The Agave plant, adapted to a semi-arid climate, has an « admirable » (the origin of its mythological name) ability to stock sugar in its fleshy base. This is how the Agave tequilana W. cv azul, commonly called the blue agave, manages to contain sugar reserves of more than 60%! These molecules, belonging to the osmolytes family, are capable of retaining the water in their cells with limited evaporation, and enable the plant to survive in their dry climates!
The Yves Rocher Laboratories use the extract from organic plantations of Agave found to the west of Mexico in the States of Jalisco, Zacatecas, Nayarit and Sinaloa. 8 to 12 years are needed between the planting and harvesting and during this time the farmers or « jimadores » take great care of the plants to encourage their growth. During this phase, sugar builds up in the “heart of the plant” helping it to resist droughts and dehydration. Once they have reached their maximum concentration in sugar, the leaves are removed and the central part of the plant called piña (Spanish for pineapple) because of its resemblance to the fruit, is harvested.
Normal skin contains roughly 70% of water. For many reasons, the balance between the supply and loss of water can sometimes break down and this leads to the dehydration of skin.
Our Botanical Beauty researchers chose the Agave, after studying the composition of its raw sap which is the source of mineral and water nutrition for plants. Extracted by a natural process, from freshly harvested piñas, Blue Agave sap is rich in osmolytes. Its efficacy is proven because it protects the plant from water loss in the same way that it protects our skin cells*!
In our Hydra végétal range, the exclusive association of the moisture capturing Blue Agave sap and Canadian Maple tree sap, effectively protect the skin from losing water** thanks to their perfect composition of osides, minerals and osmolytes.
The skin is intensely and lastingly moisturized**, and is radiant with life and beauty!
