Originating in the desert areas of southern Africa, the Ice plant is able to adapt to extreme conditions. Over the centuries it has propagated as far as Australia, the coasts of the American continent, and around the Mediterranean. Unlike other plants that have, on average, 2 series of chromosomes, the Ice Plant possesses up to 128. Having such a full pack of cards genetically, allows it to adapt over time to multiple situations. This exceptional characteristic, called polyploidy, helps it to be really adaptable on all levels- metabolically, physiologically and morphologically. It resists, survives and lives. It is the Life Plant.
Because it is adaptable, the Ice Plant can grow in any latitude. This has enabled Yves Rocher to grow it on its own land in La Gacilly, France. This is the best way to study it, follow its growth and control its organic farming methods.
In 2008, agronomical and phytological studies were undertaken to determine the best conditions for its growth (watering, density of sowing, sand….), and the period for an optimum harvest. The conclusion was that the Ice Plant is sown in the spring and harvested in the middle of July, after 10 to 13 weeks growth, when it is the richest in the required components. As soon as it is harvested, it is transported by refrigerated trucks and rapidly undergoes an exclusive natural extraction process.
The major challenge for the Beauty Care industry is the wrinkle, which results from the simultaneous decrease in several physiological functions.
To optimize Assimilation and cutaneous efficacy, Yves Rocher Research has developed and patented an exclusive extraction process for the Ice Plant called enzymatic Cryo-extraction. The plant is shredded at -70° in order to conserve the integrity of its active molecules. Once this “life serum” has been extracted how does it act on wrinkles? Thanks to its action on the mTOR protein*. This is a biological control center which regulates the mechanisms and functions of skin cells: protection, defense, regeneration… and youth! The Ice Plant extract developed by the Yves Rocher Research has proven, in vitro, that it significantly stimulates the mTOR protein. It is a groundbreaking discovery in Beauty Care.
In the Sérum Végétal range, the exclusive combination of Ice plant and Oryza extract, Sandthorn and Acacia gum, adapt to all skin types and answer the requirements of each woman : radiance, firmness, lifting effect**.
