Why does the Damask Rose smell so good? Because its perfume helps it to survive!! Roses depend on pollinating insects to reproduce and their scent attracts these insects that transport the pollen enabling this reproduction. Obviously, these advantages were seen and smelt by people who also fell under the charm of the Damask Rose and it has been used since ancient times.
The Damask Roses used by Yves Rocher Laboratories are mainly grown in Turkey, Bulgaria and Morocco. At the heart of the Anatolia plateau, in the Isparta region of Turkey, the Roses grow profusely in terraced gardens and fields, offering an unforgettable visual and olfactory display. The fresh flower is delicately picked by hand from April to May. It is generally carried out by women, one flower at a time, at dawn when the roses have the most volatile molecules. Rose essence is precious and capricious and only obtained after a long and careful harvest. 4000 kilograms of fresh flowers i.e. more than 1 400 000 flowers, are required to obtain one kilo of essential oil!
The Damask Rose is one of the oldest plants used in perfumery. Its distillation renders an essential oil that brings radiance and freshness and its extraction, an absolute that is a nectar with rich and voluptuous notes. Yves Rocher uses these two “rose concentrates” in its perfumes, such as Quelques notes d’amour and Comme une évidence. However, Botanical Beauty’s experts were able to highlight another strength of the Damascena Rose; the petals of its fresh flowers contain a protecting and regenerating wax. Concentrated in Jojoba oil, this wax becomes an active called 1000 roses’ blossom oil that is perfectly assimilated by the skin*. It increases the regeneration of keratinocytes, the main cells in the top layer of the skin, by 16%*. Combined with the 30 precious oils in the Riche Crème range, the 1000 roses’ blossom oil reveals all its powers of cellular regeneration, protection and nutrition* thanks to its impressive bio-affinity with the skin. The epidermis is reinforced and mature skin is healthier.
